Rotch (Kinmokusei / Osmanthus)

Rotch (Kinmokusei / Osmanthus)

Noda Takeichi Shoten

Available December 1

Set includes one box of Rotch Kinmokusei (Osmanthus) and a dedicated stand.

Rotch is an unexpected kind of aroma candle, combining the simplicity of a match with the warmth of candlelight.

It began with an idea for “a new kind of light” conceived by Hayato Ogasawara. Rikura Co., Ltd., a product planning and development company, later joined the project to bring the concept to life. Today, Rotch is sold by Sanwa Bussan Co., Ltd.

Noda Takeichi Shoten is responsible for producing the recycled wax. Candles left partially unused after ceremonial occasions are given a second life, transformed into small candles that can be lit simply by striking them against the side of the box — just like a match.

Each candle burns for approximately 30 minutes.

The sound of the strike. The instant the flame appears. A subtle fragrance. The gentle flicker of candlelight.

With no lighter or other tools needed, the experience begins with the simple act of creating the flame itself.

“Thirty minutes to pause in the middle of a busy day.”

Offering a new way to experience candlelight, Rotch received a Good Design Award in 2022.
